My Story with eXp
My Story
I didn’t come into estate agency by accident — and I certainly didn’t come into it to follow the traditional rulebook.
Before property, I spent years at the BBC as a reporter, presenter and director. Storytelling was my world. Listening, explaining complex things clearly, earning trust, and communicating properly — especially when things mattered — was second nature.
When it came time to sell and move my own homes, I was shocked by how poor the experience was.
Patchy communication. Chasing for updates. Being passed from person to person. Feeling like a transaction rather than a human being making a life change.
That frustration became the seed of something else.
I knew estate agency could be done differently — more personally, more transparently, and with far more care.
Why I chose to build my business with eXp Realty
I didn’t want a high-street office, layers of staff, or overheads that force agents to chase volume instead of people. I wanted a business that fitted around real life, not the other way round.
eXp gave me that — and more.
It allowed me to:
Build my own brand, not hide behind a corporate one
Work directly with my clients, start to finish — no handovers, no confusion
Keep my overheads low so I could invest in marketing, storytelling and service
Work flexibly, from Cornwall or anywhere in the world
Put people first, without compromising professionalism or profit
Most importantly, it gave me ownership — of my time, my income, and my future.
Estate agency, but human
Today, my clients deal with me.
Not an office. Not a call centre. Not whoever happens to be on duty.
I guide people personally through one of the biggest decisions of their lives — whether that’s a family move, downsizing, probate, or a new chapter entirely. Communication is constant. Expectations are clear. And honesty always comes before flattery.
That approach has led to something I never expected but value deeply: relationships. Referrals. Trust.
It’s a reminder that estate agency is not about property alone — it’s about people moving on to their next adventure.
Why I now help other agents too
As I grew my own business, I realised how many brilliant, service-led agents are held back by traditional models — high costs, limited autonomy, and a ceiling on what’s possible.
Through eXp, I now also support agents — particularly women, parents, and those craving more control — to build their own businesses within a framework that genuinely supports them.
No shop rent.
No rigid hours.
No need to choose between ambition and family.
Just a smarter way of working, with support, structure, and global opportunity.
The bigger picture
For me, success isn’t about being the biggest agent in the room.
It’s about doing work I’m proud of.
Helping people properly.
Building a business that supports my life — not consumes it.
eXp isn’t for everyone. But for those who want more autonomy, more flexibility, and a more human way of working — it’s been transformational.
And I’m only just getting started.
